Part B: A Theory of Kinetic Color (Home)
5. Chromatic Syntax
5d. Parallel and Opposite Motion
Parallel motion between the object and the surround occurs when the color changes of each area proceed in the sane direction around the color wheel.
Example 5d1: Parallel motion
Example 5d2: The relative speed of color changes alters the affect of parallel motion.
Color changes in example5d2 are not equally timed and the surround is progressing somewhat faster than the object. This creates moments of color intersection, or penetration, even with parallel motion.
Opposite motion has color areas changing in opposite directions on the color wheel.
Example 5d3: With Opposed motion, the sequencing colors of the object and the surround must penetrate each other about twice each time around the spectrum.
